I completed UK three peaks challenge in aid of gorilla conservation - by Jon Howell
Jul 01, 2017
In 2016, I was appointed Global Ambassador for the Gorilla Organization. Ever since I was a child, I've been obsessed with these magnificent animals and have been fortunate to visit them twice, once in Uganda and once in Rwanda.
However, there are fewer than 900 mountain gorillas left in the world, so their situation is precarious. In a bid to help conservation efforts, and being based in the UK, myselft and three of my friends felt that a fitting challenge to raise awareness and funds for their conservation would be to climb the three peaks of the UK (Ben Nevis, Scotland, Scafell Pie, England and Snowdon, Wales) over a single weekend, whilst wearing a gorilla suit. We believe this is the first time this has been attempted.
It was a tougher task than we had envisaged, covering 900 miles driving, over 80km hiking and climbing over 4000 metres elevation, but no-one said it would be easy. The team raised £1000 and aim to raise more via our participation in the Great Gorilla Run 2017
At Bench Events, we are passionate about creating a positive impact in the countries we partner with, creating jobs and enabling prosperity as a result of our events.
We will be bringing the Africa Hotel Investment Forum and AviaDev Africa to Kigali in October 2017 and if you are attending or would like to be part of our continued efforts to protect the endangered mountain gorillas, sign up and join the Bench Events team running the Great Gorilla Run in London this September.
