Mt. Kili Madness - Guinness World Record

One of our most courageous fundraising events was Mt Kili Madness - a dangerous, world record breaking match of Cricket at the top of Mt Kilimanjaro. The brainwave of David Harper, Head of Property Services, Hotel Partners Africa, this event was also co-organised by Bench Events and Leisure Property Services Ltd.  This event raised an amazing £175,032.12

The official launch of Mt Kili Madness was held at the Kia Oval on 16th July 2014 hosted by Clare Connor, Head of England Women's Cricket and former England cricket captain. On Friday 26th September 2014 at 11.15am at the very roof of Africa an intrepid group of cricketers left the crater of Kilimanjaro having achieved the highest game of cricket ever played.  Jonathan Worsley, Jennifer Pettinger and Matthew Weihs from Bench Events were ecstatic to be part of the group of cricket players and fans on this fund raising and world record breaking hike up Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro, setting a new world record for the highest ever cricket match played, beating the previous record of 5,165 metres set in the Himalayas in 2009.

The aim of Mt Kili Madness was to take cricket to new heights and in the process to raise money for and awareness of some wonderful causes through these amazing charities:

Cancer Research UK have saved millions of lives by discovering new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. The Rwanda Cricket Stadium Foundation was formed in August 2011 to build and manage, on a not-for-profit basis, the first dedicated international cricket ground in Rwanda. Tusk supports more than 50 field projects in 18 African countries that not only work to protect wildlife, but also help to alleviate poverty through sustainable development and education amongst rural communities who live alongside the wildlife.
